When you're modeling, sometimes you have to invest in your own career by paying for a shoot. These are called testshoots. Mostly it's with a photography team your agency knows, so they know the results are going to be worth paying for.
It can be done for various reasons, when you have a new haircut, lost or gain weight and the pictures in your portfolio are outdated. For me, I didn't have any recent portfolio-worth jobs the last months, it was mainly catalogue work so I decided to renew my portfolio. That way you have more chance to get paid work, so the paid testshoot pays itself back after a while.
Here are some of those shoots, all shot by German photographer Alan Ovaska.

Please tell me these pictures were photoshopped. I am much smaller but my fat is not that well distributed as yours... I got boney shoulders, a nice face and down there big thighs and calves plus a muffin top. It looks so strange.. No matter what size I have, the distribution of fat on my body is not so nice...

I think the new trend to curvy models is not a relief for all women in the world who are sick of the size zero trend. I think its a new form of pressure on women with bigger sizes... You can have a big size but your skin has to be perfect.

ReplyDeletePretty much no retouching in these pics. that's the whole idea of testshots: they need to be just as you are. The main goal is for (new) clients to see what you look like at your best: good posing, good lightning, good make up, good styling & good photography.
ReplyDeleteI don't walk around with my arms in the air, that's a flattering pose which works in pictures. I guess that's the way it will stay in order to sell the clothing :)
